MODEL 1832 ARTILLERY OFFICER'S COATEE

PRICE   $  7,595.00

DESCRIPTION

A Mexican War period Model 1832 Artillery officer's dress coatee for a regular army officer. Coat body is of finely woven, dark blue wool with two rows of ten, one-piece, eagle artillery buttons adorning front. Collar is lined with a red linen material which also serves to trim the facings. Sleeves have three cuff size eagle artillery buttons without lace loops. Tall collar has two rows of 1/2-inch gold lace tape with a single eagle artillery button on each row. Skirt and turnbacks are lined with the same red linen material as collar. There are two regulation bullion "flaming bombs" at the bottom of each tail.  Lining is of a white cotton material and is only in the sleeves and sides of body. There is a single tail pocket on right skirt. There are no epaulettes associated with the jacket but the rank is most likely a captain or lieutenant.

This is a much more difficult coat to find than the white trimmed infantry coats which show up occasionally. This being the only example I have seen available in many years.

CONDITION

Coat is in very good condition. The buttons are all original and matched. There are a few scattered moth nips but no significant damage. Stitching is solid and I do not see any modern thread other than maybe a couple of buttons re-sewn. The lining is in very good condition showing expected minor wear from use.  Very attractive.
