P1856 ENFIELD CAVALRY CARBINE

PRICE    $3,750.00

DESCRIPTION

A very fine example of the Pattern 1856 English imported cavalry carbine. The carbine is .577 caliber  muzzle loading with swivel type ramrod. Brass buttplate, trigger guard and nose cap. Two leaf sight graduated to 300 yards. Standard Birmingham proof marks at left side barrel breech. Lockplate marked "TOWER/1862" and crown at rear of lock. Butt stock is stamped on both sides and top forward of buttplate tang "J. Silbernagel", possibly the stock maker. The bottom of stock is stamped "B.Woodward & Sons" and is associated with guns that were purchased by the Confederacy. The small stamp in the stock behind trigger guard is illegible but is probably a Birmingham Small Arms mark. The 56 pattern carbines are one gun that I think you feel fairly certain went south.

CONDITION

A fine carbine in untouched and unaltered condition. The barrel is an attractive smooth brown color  with areas of minor surface roughness near bolster. Lock has traces of case color remaining with a few rough surface patches mostly near bolster. Stock is very good with just minor storage marks. Brass has a uniform aged patina. Ramrod and swivel are original. Bore is very good. Mechanism is tight. I don't believe there is a better one on the market.
