PRICE   $  8,595.00

DESCRIPTION

A Model 1855 Harpers Ferry Rifle dated 1860. 58 caliber. Single shot muzzleloading.  Iron mounted with lug on right side of barrel for mounting saber bayonet. Steel ramrod with tulip head. Walnut stock with patchbox mounted on right side. Lockplate marked "U.S./HARPERS FERRY" forward of hammer and date "1860" at rear section, an eagle on the lid of the Maynard tape primer compartment. 33-inch round barrel is marked on left flat at breech "V/P" and eaglehead. Top flat at breech marked "1859".  The left flat of stock has "AMB" cartouche for Harpers Ferry master armorer Armistead M. Ball. "U.S" is stamped on tang of buttplate.  The rifle has the correct small size 3-leaf rear sight .

According to recent research the 1860 lock and 1859 barrel date combination are found on rifles that were produced in the early months of 1860.  The production run for this particular configuration would have been small with probably less than 1,000 produced in the first few months of the year.
