BULLET STRUCK M1839 US BELT PLATE

$2,795.00.00

DESCRIPTION

This is an excavated, bullet struck Model 1839 small US belt plate. This exact buckle is pictured in "IN THE LINE OF FIRE" by Mullinax & Melton on page 37.  The buckle has been pierced with at least a .44 caliber if not a larger bullet. The brass face and lead have been shattered at the point of impact and luckily for the wearer the projectile was stopped by the brass belt hook on the reverse, although, he surely received a severe wound from the shrapnel. It is with very few artifacts that you can say that it was without question in the heat of battle.

A truly unique and rare piece is a battlefield bullet struck plate from the American Civil War.
