EXCEPTIONAL CONFEDERATE LIGHT ARTILLERY SABER

PRICE   $  7,950.00

DESCRIPTION

A Confederate light artillery saber copied from the type I Model 1840 Ames light artillery saber. Scabbard is made without  throat with a recess in guard for the top of scabbard to fit into . This pattern sword has long thought to be a product of the Kenansville manufactury in North Carolina. The grip is wrapped with a lacquered oilcloth and a single strand of iron wire. Brass artillery style guard with distinctive Kenansville style pommel cap. Blade has single unstopped fuller. Scabbard  has reddish paint finish of the same color as seen on other products manufactured by Froelich.   Large, rounded brass ring mounts. Solder attached iron drag, again in the style of Kenansville products.

A very fine example of a scarce Confederate light artillery saber.

CONDITION

A completely original and unaltered sword. Oilcloth grip is in excellent condition. Blade is a dull gray with some scattered edge nicks. Scabbard is excellent with most of the original red paint remaining intact. Unquestionably one of the best examples of this pattern.
