AMERICAN SILVER MOUNTED DIRK

PRICE    $2,150.00

DESCRIPTION

An American dirk dating to the early part of the 19th century. The knife surfaced many years ago directly from a Northern Kentucky family and has not previously been offered for sale. The knife has characteristics associated with early Kentucky gunsmiths including silver mountings and fruitwood grip. Blade measures 7 inches and overall knife is 10.5 inches. Dirk is very well made with coin silver ferrule, pommel cap and straps with silver plaque tacked to one side of the grip. Handguard is coin silver with rolled ends. Grip is fruitwood most likely cherry. Scabbard is seamed brass with silver throat mount and tip. Truly a beautiful product of early American craftmanship.

CONDITION

Very good condition overall. Double edged blade is still bright with sharp point. Original thin leather washer at ricassa of blade is present.  Silver mountings have a well aged patina. Grips is sound with no cracks or loss. Brass scabbar d has a pleasing patina. The silver scabbard tip is a bit dinged up probably from having been dropped at some point.
