PRICE    $2,595.00

DESCRIPTION

An uncommon pattern silvered eaglehead sword dating to the 1830's. Clamshell style guard depicts patriotic motifs including a riband above a circle of 13 stars, American eagle and Lady Liberty with her foot on a crown symbolizing the defeat of tyranny. Grip is of mother of pearl. Both pommel and quillen are in the form of an eagle. Silvered metal scabbard is lavishly engraved and chased with floral motifs. 31.5 inch straight, double edged blade is decorated with early style engraving of gilded floral and patriotic motif with surrounding bluing extending nearly half the blade length. Blade has "PDL" maker marking engraved into decoration behind guard. A very scarce pattern sword from the early part of the 19th century and having much eye appeal.

CONDITION

Very good condition. Applied silver showing some loss most noticiably on pommel and high points of hand guard. Silver on scabbard is very good with some thin spots. Mother of pearl grip has a crack on left side and has had a well done, period repair using m.o.p at top on right side. Repaired area measures .5 by .75 inches. Blade is excellent with bright gilt and blue with a bit of fading at ricasso area. Scabbard retains nearly its full complement of silver with a couple of shallow dings near bottom on back side and is missing the lower ring mount. Overall a very attractive sword.
