HISTORIC CONFEDERATE D-GUARD KNIFE

PRICE   $  14,500.00

DESCRIPTION

An extremely historic Confederate D-Guard knife with extraordinary capture tag. Knife measure 18-inches overall with 13-inch clip point blade. Grip is of two pieces of wood attached to tang with a pair of large iron rivets. The unique round hand guard isplaced to the side of the grip in line with the flat side of the blade. Scabbard is wood covered by brown leather with belt loop cut on reverse. Blade is fairly crudely finished showing many tool marks.

The capture tag, written in faded brown ink, reads "Taken from the Body of a dead Rebel at Manassas on Saturday Evng Aug. 30 1862 by David Elder Co. E 102 Reg. P.V. & by him give A.M. Stewart-Chaplain 102d Reg.  This savage weapon has been entirely manufactured at home. These are the enemies we have to conquer in this bloody war."

The knife has an excellent collection history having been sold to Norm Flayderman by George Lower in 1983 and residing in his collection for many years until sold to a private collection in Georgia in 2008. The knife is pictured and written up in Man at Arms magazine and photographed in Mr. Flayderman's collection.

About as good as it gets.
