CIVIL WAR OFFICER'S SASH ATTRIBUTED TO GEN. C.W. SEARS

DESCRIPTION

A standard crimson silk Civil War officer's sash with tassels.  Attached to the sash is Steve Mullinax's 1983 collection tag which reads "Sash belonged to;  General C. W. Sears 46th Miss."  No information accompanies the sash other than the tag.

 

Gen. Claudius W. Sears

Sears enlisted in the 17th Miss at the beginning of the war and participated in the eastern campaigns through Antietam. In December 1862 he was appointed Colonel of the 46th Miss.  The unit was engaged in the Vicksburg campaign where Sears was captured and later exchanged. Following exchange he was called to the Army of Tennessee where he participated in the Atlanta campaign and then the Franklin-Nashville campaign. General Sears lost a leg in the battle of Nashville and was captured at Pulaski, TN.

 

CONDITION

    Overall the sash is in very good condition with light fading more so on tassels.
