An early production, high condition Model 1851 Colt Navy Revolver with squareback trigger guard. SN 2913, manufactured in 1851. 36 caliber, six shot cylinder with 7.5-inch octagon barrel. This is the second pattern of the Colt Navy revolver produced utilizing a squareback trigger guard and differing from the first model with the wedge screw above the wedge. One piece varnished walnut grips. Silvered brass trigger guard and backstrap. Barrel marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-". Frame marked on left side "COLTS / PATENT". Cylinder with roll engraved scene of battle between US and Mexican Navies.
A historically important revolver which was part of the earliest production of Colt Navies, also the fact that less than three thousand of this model were produced.
Fine overall condition with all matched 4-digit serial number. All parts are original. Sharp edges to metal with excellent markings. Barrel retains 40% original blue with balance showing thinned blue to light gray. Cylinder has sharp scene with approximately 60% blue remaining, cylinder stops are near perfect. The backstrap and trigger guard retain 95% silver with wear only to edges. Loading lever shows areas of bright case color. Grips retain nearly all of the factory finish with just very light high point and handling wear.
A rare gun which is nearly impossible to find in this grade.
